Hair Loss Treatment for Women
Dr. Mamta Maurya, MD (Homeopathy) · CCH Reg. No. 5898
Treating the cause, not the follicle. PCOS hair loss · Thyroid / Hashimoto's · Alopecia areata · Post-pill · Telogen effluvium.
The shower drain. The pillow. The hairbrush. The constant counting.
Hair loss in women is medically manageable — but it is also emotionally devastating in a way that is rarely acknowledged. Hair is tied to identity and confidence in ways that run very deep.
You have probably tried the shampoos. The serums. The supplements. Possibly Minoxidil — which works while you use it and then stops working when you stop.
What almost nobody has told you: female hair loss is almost always a downstream symptom of something else. Treating the downstream symptom without treating the upstream cause is why nothing is working permanently.
The Most Common Upstream Causes — Women Aged 22–42
Identifying which is driving your hair loss is the first step. Constitutional treatment then addresses that cause directly.
PCOS
Elevated androgens (DHT) miniaturise hair follicles
Thyroid / Hashimoto's
Autoimmune thyroiditis impairs hair follicle cycling
Iron deficiency
Ferritin below 40 ng/mL causes significant shedding — check serum ferritin, not just haemoglobin
Vitamin B12 / Vitamin D deficiency
Increasingly common in urban office workers
Chronic stress (telogen effluvium)
Mass shedding 2–3 months after a stressful event
Alopecia areata
Autoimmune — patchy circular bald spots
Post-pill hair loss
Dramatic shedding 2–3 months after stopping OCP
Postpartum hair loss
Shedding 3–4 months after delivery
Why Minoxidil Is Not the Answer (For Most Women)
Minoxidil works by extending the anagen (growth) phase of hair follicles. For women, results are variable. The critical limitation: it does not address the cause. PCOS androgens continue miniaturising follicles. Thyroid autoimmunity continues affecting follicle cycling. When Minoxidil is stopped — often due to side effects like increased facial hair — shedding returns.
Constitutional homeopathy's approach:
- • Treat the PCOS → androgenic hair loss improves
- • Treat the Hashimoto's → follicle cycling restores
- • Support iron absorption (with nutritional guidance)
- • Address the stress response (for telogen effluvium)
- • Treat alopecia areata constitutionally — immune dysregulation is the target
This takes longer than Minoxidil. But the improvement is sustained — because the cause has been addressed.
Hair Loss Types and Homeopathic Approach
Each type has a distinct pattern, mechanism, and constitutional approach.
PCOS-Related Thinning
Pattern: Temple recession, diffuse volume loss, hairline widening
Mechanism: Elevated DHT miniaturises hair follicles progressively
Remedies: Sepia, Calcarea Carbonica
Thyroid / Hashimoto's
Pattern: Whole-scalp density loss, outer eyebrow thinning, dry coarse texture
Mechanism: Impaired follicle cycling; autoimmune inflammation
Remedies: Natrum Muriaticum, Calcarea Carbonica, Lycopodium
Alopecia Areata
Pattern: Smooth circular bald patches, can be multiple
Mechanism: Autoimmune — immune system attacks hair follicles
Remedies: Phosphorus, Fluoric Acid, Vinca Minor
Telogen Effluvium (Stress)
Pattern: Mass shedding in handfuls 2–3 months after stressful event
Mechanism: Stress pushes follicles en masse into resting phase
Remedies: Phosphoric Acid, Natrum Muriaticum
Post-Pill Hair Loss
Pattern: Dramatic shedding 2–3 months after stopping OCP
Mechanism: Progestins kept hair in anagen; withdrawal triggers telogen
Remedies: Pulsatilla, Sepia
Postpartum Shedding
Pattern: Shedding 3–4 months after delivery
Mechanism: Oestrogen crash; iron/B12 deficiency during breastfeeding prolongs it
Remedies: Constitutional + nutritional correction
Blood Tests to Share Before Consultation
Don't have these? You can start without them — Dr. Mamta will advise which are most useful based on your hair loss pattern.
| Test | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Serum ferritin | Ferritin below 40 ng/mL causes shedding even with normal haemoglobin |
| TSH, T3, T4, Anti-TPO | Thyroid function + Hashimoto's autoimmune screen |
| FSH, LH, Testosterone, DHEAS, Prolactin | Hormonal panel if PCOS is suspected |
| Vitamin D (25-OH) | Deficiency increasingly common in urban office workers |
| Vitamin B12 | B12 deficiency causes hair loss and is extremely common in vegetarians |
| CBC (complete blood count) | Anaemia, iron stores overview |
Results Timeline — What to Expect
Important: The first visible sign of homeopathic response is that shedding reduces — not that regrowth appears. Many patients abandon treatment at 8 weeks because the hair isn't growing back yet — not realising that the shedding reduction at week 6 was the treatment working.
| Type | Shedding reduces | Regrowth visible | Full recovery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Telogen effluvium (stress) | 6–10 weeks | 3–4 months | 6 months |
| PCOS hair loss | 8–12 weeks | 4–6 months | 9–12 months |
| Thyroid / Hashimoto's | 10–14 weeks | 4–6 months | 9–12 months |
| Alopecia areata (single patch) | — | 6–10 weeks | 4–6 months |
| Post-pill | 6–8 weeks | 3–4 months | 6 months |
| Postpartum | 6–8 weeks | 3–4 months | 6 months |

“My hair was falling in handfuls after I stopped the pill. Six months later my periods were irregular and my hair still wasn't recovering. Dr. Mamta's treatment — 3 months in — the shedding has reduced significantly. I can see baby hairs along my hairline.”

FAQ — Hair Loss Online Homeopathy
Can homeopathy really stop hair loss?
When the root cause is identified and treated constitutionally — yes, very effectively. Particularly for PCOS hair loss, alopecia areata, and post-stress telogen effluvium. The key is treating the cause, not the follicle.
How long before I see results from homeopathy for hair loss?
The first change is reduction in shedding — this typically happens within 6-10 weeks. Visible regrowth is a later stage — 3-6 months depending on type. Patience through the first 8 weeks is critical.
Can I use Minoxidil alongside homeopathy?
Yes — they are compatible. If Minoxidil is working for you, you do not need to stop it. The goal of constitutional treatment is that over time, you will not need to depend on Minoxidil long-term.
Is online consultation sufficient for hair loss treatment?
Yes — photos of the scalp, pattern description, blood reports, and history give Dr. Mamta everything needed for an accurate assessment and prescription.

Hair loss can have multiple causes. Nutritional deficiencies identified in blood work should be corrected alongside homeopathic treatment. Large-scale alopecia areata or advanced androgenetic alopecia — specialist dermatology evaluation is recommended alongside any conservative treatment. Educational purpose only.
